Intern Program Houseparents, Sacher Intern House

Founded in 1979, Leadership Institute provides training in campaigns, fundraising, grassroots organizing, youth politics, and communications. The Institute teaches conservatives of all ages how to succeed in politics, government, and the media. Three times a year (Spring, Summer, Fall) for 12 to 16 weeks, Leadership Institute hosts up to 14 interns, who are housed near its Clarendon (Arlington) offices in our Sacher Intern House.

Houseparents at the Sacher Intern House are responsible for providing mentorship, supervision, and daily management to interns residing at Leadership Institute's Sacher Intern House. They ensure a supportive living environment, enforce house rules, manage finances, coordinate events, and handle maintenance and security matters.

Traditionally, houseparents have served in this role for 18 months to 2 years.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and support to interns, fostering personal growth and development.

  • Address conflicts and mediate disputes among interns or guests.

  • Ensure the safety and security of residents and premises.

  • Organize social activities, networking events, and guest speaker nights.

  • Manage the budget for house supplies and submit reimbursement requests.

  • Maintain open communication with interns, guests, and stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with the intern coordinator to plan events and activities.

  • Oversee housekeeping and maintenance tasks for a clean and functional environment.

  • Promote cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and mutual respect among residents.

  • Handle crisis situations and implement emergency response protocols.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in mentorship and residential management.

  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for the Leadership Institute.

Accounting Manager

About Leadership Institute 

The Leadership Institute is a 501 (c 3) organization that was founded in 1979 by its president, Morton C. Blackwell. LI provides training in campaigns, fundraising, grassroots organizing, 

youth politics, and communications.  

The Institute teaches conservatives of all ages how to succeed in politics, government, and the media. Since its founding, LI has trained more than 200,000 conservative activists, leaders, and students.  

About the Opening 

LI seeks a friendly, detail-oriented, and organized individual with the highest levels of personal integrity to serve as Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager supports the organization in accounting, audit, and financial control functions.  

The person we are looking for is a servant leader, a team player, and a problem-solver, who is motivated by the Institute’s mission to form the next generation of conservative leaders.  

Bookkeeping

Manage monthly accounting including revenue, expenses, restricted assets, depreciation, and bank reconciliation. 

Lead month-close and year-close activities for speedy financial reporting and independent audit. 

Annual Financial Audit

Provide project management and subject matter expertise for the Institute’s annual independent financial audit. 

Treasury and Restricted Assets

Manage cash flow through daily deposits and investment management and track restricted asset activity. 

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in accounting  

  • Knowledge of accounting best practices and procedures, including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)  

  • BSc or BA with preference given to degrees in accounting, business or the liberal arts; CPA designation a plus not required 

  • Familiarity with SageIntacct desired  

  • Highest levels of personal integrity  

  • Highly detailed-oriented  

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills 

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities 

  • Alignment with and passion for the mission of the Leadership Institute

Studio Fellow

The Leadership Institute seeks individuals interested in careers in media or content production to join the studio's team to become a Studio Fellow.


The Studio Fellowship Program will teach and train those interested in how to produce video, podcasts, photographic content, and graphic design. Work will be in coordination with all departments of the Leadership Institute, including campus, events, programs, and external affairs as well as other conservative groups that will benefit from the Studio Fellows work.


The candidate should possess an interest in graphic design and video editing or marketing. They will assist with the daily content needs of both LI and partner organizations. They will help develop social media graphics, marketing materials, presentations, and videos. The position requires becoming familiar with the studio space in the Leadership Institute for the purposes of external rentals and for recording video and podcast content in-house. They will become fluent in the Leadership Institute’s branding language.


Candidates for this position must have a knowledge and understanding of conservative philosophy and possess strong interpersonal skills, excelling in both written and oral communication. This position involves relocation to Virginia and a moderate amount of travel. At the completion of the program, qualified individuals will receive an equipment stipend to purchase necessary gear to help jumpstart their careers.

Compensation:

Fellows will receive the following.




  • $23,000 salary for six months with the potential to extend to one year
  • at the completion of the program, they will receive 7,000 to purchase equipment.


Position Responsibilities:

-      Determine production requirements by reviewing client requirements and considering internal scheduling factors.

-      Develop content strategies by examining project objectives and planning, scheduling, and completing design and production requirements.

-      Improve creative standards

-      Media and production file storage, including backing up all media, creating and maintaining file storage solutions, transferring files to external clients and LI departments

-      Travel with the team for live streaming events and taking footage of various LI training

-      Attended training to help better develop skills
